With Jos van Boxtel

Dates: Friday 1 – Sunday 3 March 2019
Course Fee: £695.00
Qualification: Master Class Certificate in the Innovative Treatment of Social Phobia and Fear of Public Speaking
As you are no doubt aware, many people suffer from a social phobia: an intense fear of being criticized or judged. It can be related to a certain performance, such as public speaking, or it can be general and occur in any social setting.
People with a social phobia are afraid they will look weak, crazy, stupid, boring or even ugly in the eyes of others. They anxiously anticipate social situations and endure the actual experience with great fear possibly with panic attacks. People with a social phobia can have symptoms like blushing, sweating, trembling or stuttering and are often caught in a vicious cycle of fearing their symptoms and thereby causing them to happen. They usually end up avoiding situations, people, or activities that trigger their fears, thereby limiting their lives both professionally and personally. Resolving a social phobia not only removes an intense fear; it allows the person to live according to his or her goals, dreams and life purpose.
Often social phobia clients are treated with anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication, which involve a risk of side effects and dependency and don’t resolve the underlying problem. In the realm of psychotherapy, CBT is often used which gives people insight and tools at a conscious level. Often however, social anxiety and its causes operate at the unconscious level and conscious steps are not sufficient.
Therefore, the BHRTI offers a 3-day training course teaching you how to treat social phobias at the conscious and unconscious level. Approaches like hypnotherapy and NLP allow you to address the unconscious aspects of a social phobia, interrupt involuntary responses like trembling, sweating or blushing and so increase self confidence and self esteem. We will explore all aspects of social phobia including cause, development, secondary gain, limiting beliefs, required resources, self image and life purpose. Rather than applying a standard technique or procedure you will learn how to adapt therapy to a client’s beliefs, needs and thinking style.
This course is based on the original teaching of the world renowned expert in the field of hypnotherapy Stephen Brooks as modelled by Jos Van Boxtel. It is the second of a series of short niche courses created due to an increasing demand by therapists wanting to become more competent and confident in treating clients in a more effective way.
In this course social phobias will be distinguished from specific phobias. Treating specific phobias such as fear of insects, dogs, flying etc is the subject of a separate course.
